So the Hawks continue to sign players to shore up the team.  So they signed Evan Brophey, Nathan Davis, Hugh Jessiman, Jassen Cullimore, Hannu Toivonen and Igor Makarov.

Knowing that they needed a defenseman they signed Jassen Cullimore.  Cullimore will be in his second stint with the Blackhawks having played here in 05-06 and 06-07.  Cullimore, 37, a Simcoe Ontario  native, came into the NHL during the 94-95 season with the Vancouver Canucks.  Since then he has played for the Canadiens, the Lightning, the Blackhawks and the Panthers.  Cullimores blue line experiance should be welcome on the Blackhawks.

Evan Brophey, 23, the Kitchener Ontario native center, was the the blackhawks 3rd round (68th overall) pick in the 2005 entry draft.  He spent the last 3 years on the Rockford IceHogs, where he played a total of 232 games racking up 34 goals, 55 assists, and 168 penalty minutes.

Nathan Davis, 24, Center, the Rocky River Ohio native was the Blackhawks 4th round pick in 2005.  He spent the last 2 years on the Rockford IceHogs appearing in 72 games, picking up 13 goals, 10 assists, and 26 penalty minutes.

Hugh Jessiman 26, Right Wing, The New York city native was drafted by his home team 1st round in the 2003 draft.  He started his AHL career in 05-06 with the Hartford Wolf Pack.  The last two years he’s been on the Milwaukee Admirals.  He’s played in 141 games for the admirals over the last two years racking up 40 goals, 29 assists and 211 penalty minutes.  He should make a nice replacement for Ladd, if he is on the Hawks opening day roster.

Hannu Toivonen a 26 year old goaltender from Kalvola Finland was the Boston Bruins 1st round pick in 2002. his first NHL start was during the 05-06 season with the Bruins where he played in 20 games.  He had 1 shutout, 9 wins, 5 losses, 4 ties, and a goals against of 2.63.  He played the next season for the bruins also appearing in 18 games,  with 3 wins, 9 losses, 1 tie and a goals against of 4.23.  He didnt appear in the NHL again until the 07-08 season with the St Louis Blues.  He appeared in 23 games for the blues with 6 wins, 10 losses, 5 ties and a goals against of 3.44.  Last year he was with the IceHogs, he appeared in 5 games.  He finished the season with 1 win, 4 losses, 0 ties, and a 3.44 goals against of 3.44.    Im not sure why they wanted this guy, he really hasnt had good NHL numbers, his minor league numbers have been pretty good, so he should give Rockford a chance at the playoffs.

And last but not least….Igor Makarov.  Didnt find much on this right wing,  23 year old Moscow native.  He was the Blackhawks 2nd round pick in the 2006 draft.  He spent last year on the Moscow Dynamo appearing in 25 games.  He had 1 goal, 2 assists, and 33 penalty minutes.  Nothing to impressive, but he is Russian and they used to know how to make hockey players over there so you never know.

well, hope this helps with the recent siginings and thanks for stopping by!
